Resume

This page includes a short musical biography. Please feel free to download my more detailed musical resume if you would like to take a look.

As a piano teacher, I began my professional activities at the age of 15, quickly acquiring students ranging from six to sixty-five years of age! To this day I love teaching at all levels and ages, from beginning children and adults, to very advanced students. Besides competition coaching, I have successfully coached students for college auditions.

Besides private teaching, I have worked as a coach and instructor in venues such as the Austin Chamber Music society, and as a theory teacher for gifted highschool pianists at The University of Texas at Austin's summer piano program. I recieved my Master of Music in music theory from the University of Texas, where I also studied with pianist Anton Nel.

Growing up in small-town Delaware, I was lucky enough to study with some very fine teachers in my formative years, including Ruth Jones, Gene Yenni, and the late Dr. Lee Mitchell (formerly of the Peabody Conservatory). My primary undergraduate instruction was from Dr. Eric Ruple, with other instruction from Dr. Gabriel Dobner and Ms. Vicki Bernecking. Although not a regular student of either, I was strongly influenced by the teaching and advice of Dr. Peter Amstutz (West Virginia University) and Dr. Charles Fisher (formerly of the University of Michigan). I am an alumnus of the Aspen Music Festival and School where I worked with Dr. Jean-David Coen.

As a performer I have been active my entire life, in both solo and collaborative pursuits. At the age of 15 I was invited as a guest soloist with Salisbury Symphony Orchestra in two performances of Mozart’s 21st Piano Concerto (KV 467) in C Major. Also, while an undergraduate, I performed with the James Madison University Symphony Orchestra in Liszt’s Concerto #2 in A Major. Also, I have participated in and placed first in many competitions. As an accompanist, I have had the pleasure of working with numerous vocalists and instrumentalists—covering a wide range of the collaborative literature. I have had live performances recorded for both radio and television broadcast.
